Teaching Practicum Agreement

  1. UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL AUTÓNOMA DE MÉXICO
    FACULTAD DE ESTUDIOS SUPERIORES “ACATLÁN”
    DIVISIÓN DE HUMANIDADES
    LICENCIATURA EN ENSEÑANZA DE INGLÉS
    TEACHING PRACTICUM AGREEMENT
    August 25, 2009.

Dear Tutor Teachers and Student Teachers,

This is to thank you for the support and help you are going to give to our LEI students in their Teaching Practicum Course. As you know this is a very relevant aspect for our student teachers who do not have any teaching experience and a very enriching activity for the students who have already started teaching. Student Teachers (STs) will be in charge of the group from August the 31rst to December 10th.

In this AGREEMENT we all are establishing mutual responsibilities throughout the course. The following recommendations will be observed:

    - Perfect attendance and punctuality are a must. If STs miss one of the classes they will be penalized with 10 points less in their final grade for the first and only absence.
    - Student Teachers must prepare class in advance under your supervision, then, if STs lack a lesson plan on the date of the class, they WON’T BE ALLOWED TO GIVE CLASS. STs must have lessons plans ready and signed by you at least 3 days before the class is given. If you have any problems, please let me know.
    - STs will have to sign in their attendance with Tutor Teachers every class.
    - Remember that positive, dynamic and nice attitudes towards this practicum are also a must from all the parts.
    - STs have to include different types of materials and group work in class. STs should bring in all their materials, books, CDs, copies, markers, etc.
    - STs should design 4 TASKS for the semester.
    - STs should hand in lesson plans (Lps) after they have worked with them in class (Lps have to be signed by Tutor Teachers, Lps have to include comments from Tutor Teachers, etc.)
    - STs should hand in a journal every week to the Supervisor Teacher.
    - STs will grade exams with his/her mentor’s help.
    - If a ST has to abandon his/her group for any reason (lack of linguistic command, classroom management or teaching skills, or all of them), they will lose the points for lesson plans, journal, Student’s Evaluation and Tutor’s Evaluation.
    - Tutor Teachers should be in the classroom the entire class in order to observe STs. and give feedback.
    - Tutor Teachers are expected to support and give enriching observation comments. Your pieces of advice, guidance, instructions and suggestions during class preparation are necessary. Your feedback comments after every class will be also very helpful and welcome.
    - Tutor Teachers and the students in the language course will assess STs.
    - Student Teachers will have to attend Friday meetings to share experiences.
    - Student Teachers will have to observe peers.

I only have to add that this is team work and that cooperation and mutual support are necessary and important. Thanks a lot for helping us form future and better teachers.

The Art of Teaching. By J. Parini

This is a very interesting book that talks about the long way a professor has to walk in order to get teaching experience. It's worth reading it!
